Best Practice
Many leaders are not so much interested in having a good theory as much as a good example to build upon. Ever since Tom Peters classic In Search of Excellence, this genre of leadership literature has produced some excellent works. The best in recent years comes from Jim Collins Good to Great (Collins, 2001) and Built to Last (Collins, 2002). Both are studies done from extensive research on successful organizations and provide some key ideas for sustained growth. John Maxwell's books, especially The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (Nelson, 1998), fall into this category. Maxwell is able to find good illustrations and piece them together under his "laws" which makes them easier to remember.
