Wall Street (1987) directed by Oliver Stone. This film is a classic study in corruption, as a young stockbroker Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) hooks up with a high powered but ruthless Wall Street broker Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). Once Bud accepts Gordon's central maxim, "greed is good," it is essentially all downhill morally for the aspiring agent, even as his financial status accelerates. The story is the battle for the young man's soul. On one side is the selfish and scheming Gekko and the egotistical and equally conniving girlfriend Darien (Daryl Hannah) feeding Bud's ego and ambitions, contrasted to Bud's blue-collar father (and real life father, Martin Sheen), and old office colleague Lou (Hal Holbrook) who provide solid, practical advice. No film more sharply contrasts the importance of leadership values than this one. --Larry Stout
